Finchem was part of a nationwide coalition of GOP foreign minister candidates, all competing with the false premise that the current electoral system is corrupt. Finchem, with the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, called for an overhaul of the Arizona vote to limit access.
Finchem criticized the state’s election administration for the way the counts continued last Election Day, implying some sort of conspiracy involving Fontes.
Now, as the state’s highest voting official, he will face how to combat electoral denial in one of the nation’s epicenters.
Shortly after the voting ended in 2020, and Fontes’ tenure as county registrar, one of the most famous ballot-counting conspiracies called “SharpieGate” blossomed in Maricopa.
