Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said that while his family supported President Donald Trump in this year’s election, he embraced nonpartisanship as he worked to ensure election integrity in his state.
“By all accounts, Georgia had a very successful and smooth election,” Raffensperger wrote in an op-ed published in USA Today.

The Republican secretary of state praised the efficiency with which Georgia managed its election process, and praised the state for reducing long wait times.
A record 1.3 million voters sent their ballots by mail, and another 2.7 million voted in person. Raffensperger said for the one million voters who came out to vote in person on Election Day, their waiting time was only three minutes on average.
“This should be something for the people of Georgia to celebrate, whether their preferred presidential candidate wins or loses,” Raffensperger wrote. “For those wondering, mine is gone – my family voted for him, donated to him and now he’s being thrown under the bus with him.”
Since losing the election to Joe Biden, who is now the president-elect, Trump has been critical of the entire election process.

The Trump campaign also called for a recount in Georgia, even after election results showed President-elect Joe Biden won.
Despite the General Services Administration officially approving government resources to be allocated to the Biden transition team, Trump is still keen to claim fraud and cast doubt on the integrity of the election.
“When I came to power, I committed to conduct elections in Georgia with integrity. After any election, half of the voters will be happy and the other half will be disappointed. But I wanted to make sure that everyone has confidence in the process and confidence in the results,” Raffensperger wrote.
