While WHMIS training has always been mandatory for those who handle hazardous materials, significant changes introduced with the GHS require such personnel to participate in WHMIS 2015 training. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that personnel under their supervision receive WHMIS training prior to handling hazardous materials. Staff who received WHMIS training prior to September 1, 2015 were asked to complete WHMIS 2015 training by December 31, 2015. WHMIS training completed on or after September 1, 2015 meets the WHMIS 2015 requirements.
