If you’re wondering why your gas mileage seems a little lower than usual lately, or why your steering seems weak when you’re behind the wheel, or why your car seems to be sitting closer to the ground than usual. , it will help to start with the only thing on your car that should be touching the road: the tires. You may have a problem with inflation.
I Want To Know How Much My Car Is Worth
Having the right tire pressure is very important to get good gas mileage and the most life for your tires. Your car’s recommended tire pressure will provide the best gas mileage, handling and tire life for that car — and it’s written right on the door of the car. That’s what you should follow when filling them with air to the recommended pressure, measured in pounds per square inch, or psi.
Average Car Weight
In new cars, the recommended tire pressure is usually listed on a sticker inside the driver’s door. If there is no sticker on the door, you can usually find the specs in the owner’s manual. Most riders will recommend 32 psi to 35 psi for tires when cold. The reason you check tire pressure when it’s cold is that as the tires roll on the road, the friction between them and the road creates heat, which increases both the temperature and the air pressure. For the most accurate reading (not to mention the most similar), make sure the car has been sitting overnight or at least parked for a few hours.
Inflate your tires to the pressure listed on the tire itself. That number is the maximum pressure the tire can handle, not the vehicle’s recommended pressure. Lucky, huh?
Under-inflating your tires will give you a loose ride and poor handling, while driving under-inflated tires can cause premature wear due to increased friction. Either way, not inflating your tires to the recommended pressure will negatively affect tire wear and vehicle performance – and will hamper your maintenance schedule when it comes to replacing them.

When it’s time to upgrade your car, the first step is to get rid of your current car. You have two options: sell it or trade it. Both options have their pros and cons, but first you need to know how much your car is to accurately estimate your new car budget.

Fortunately, there are valuation tools out there to answer the question, “how much is my car worth?” We will cover these tools and provide a more detailed alternative below.
To find the exact market value of your car, you can search the internet for hours to find similar cars for sale and their prices. However, year, make and mileage aren’t the only factors to consider when determining price. You need to consider condition, Carfax history, color, location, finance rates, and more! Or, you can navigate to a car valuation service that already does the work for you.
Sites like Kelley Blue Book and Canadian Black Book have obtained data on new and used cars to determine their base value, the amount of optional extras, and more. Then they estimate the resale value based on the condition and mileage of your car and whether you plan to trade it in or do a private sale.
There can be a big difference in the value of your car based on whether you trade in or sell privately due to tax benefits. For example if you have a Honda Civic that can be sold privately for $10,000 in Ontario. It will cost $11,300 if it costs $10,000 as a trade-in. When you trade in your car with a dealer you don’t pay tax on the difference between the value of your car and the new car being bought. So your total money when trading in the example above is $10,000 + $1,300 = $11,300.

These appraisal sites are free, but there is no guarantee that you will get an accurate appraisal for your vehicle. These services offer you a rough price range, but the final selling price depends on the demand for your car in your area and the ever-changing market conditions.
If you choose to sell your car on the open market, you must set an initial asking price. Canadian Black Book and Kelley Blue Book can each give you a good ballpark range for your car’s value.
If you’re using the Canadian Black Book (CBB), first select a make and model from the drop-down boxes at the top of the screen and click “Search.” As an example, we will use the Ford Focus. On the next page, click “Get Estimated Asking Price.”

As instructed, enter the information specific to your vehicle. For our example, we’ll use K2H1A1 for our zip code, 2018 model year, and 50,000 for our mileage. Click “Next.”
Questions You Should Ask Before Tinting Your Car
Now, select the trim. For our example, we will choose the Titanium trim. If there were body types to choose from, you’ll choose that next. For our example, we will choose “4D Sedan.”
Next, choose the options your car has and its color. For our example, we will select “No options available” and “white.”
On the next page, CBB asks what car you plan to buy when you replace your current car. For our example, we chose a 2021 Ford Mustang and said we planned to make this purchase in six months or so.
On the next page, you can enter your personal information if you like, or you can skip it by pressing the “Skip” button.
How Much Equity Should I Have In My Car Before I Sell?
On the last page, you will find the average asking price for your car. In our example car, it came in at $18,675.
In the Kelley Blue Book (KBB) click the “Select Make” drop down box and select your vehicle type, then do the same for the model and click “Search.” We will use the same 2018 Ford Focus Titanium 4D Sedan for this example.
Scroll down to find the year, fuel type, and transmission type that matches your vehicle on the next page. Then click on the trim level that matches your vehicle.
On the next screen, click “Private Party Price,” and enter the mileage and condition of your vehicle. For our example, we chose 50,000 km and “Very Good” condition. If you want to add optional equipment, click the “Edit Optional Equipment” button.
How Often Should I Drive My Car?
For our example Ford Focus, KBB estimates a private party price of $18,005 and a fair price range of $17,198 to $18,813.
If you are trading in your car, CBB and KBB are good services but expect prices to be lower than the value of a private group. This is because dealers must account for their resale value and any repairs the vehicle may need.
If you’re using CBB, select a make and model from the drop-down boxes at the top of the screen and click “Search.” We will continue to use the Ford Focus as our example. On the next page, click on “Get Insider Trading Value.”
Enter your vehicle-specific information as instructed and click “Next.” We will use all the same information as before: K2H1A1 for our zip code, 2018 for the model year, and 50,000 for our mileage.
I Like My Car
Now, select the trim. If there were body types to choose from, you’ll choose that next. Click “Next.” We will continue with our previous example, which was the Titanium trim 4D Sedan.
Next, select the options your car has and its color, and click “Next.” For our example, we will select “No options available” and “white.”
On the next page, CBB asks you to specify the next car you plan to buy when replacing your current car. We’ll use the same car as our previous example: a 2021 Ford Mustang that I plan to buy in six months or so.

On the last page, you will find the lowest and highest trade-in value for your car. For our example car, it’s about $14,360 to $15,640.
