Honestly, my first sale was a bit of a nightmare. Just a few minutes after I dropped off the package at the post office and marked it as “shipped” the buyer canceled the order, citing “accidental purchase”. I was terrified. It’s a nice dress and there’s no way I can get it unless the buyer decides to send it back. I hurriedly called Poshmark, explaining what had happened. They responded immediately, assuring me that they had credited my account (even though the order was canceled and the buyer was refunded). They wrote, “Going forward, we recommend shipping your sales within 2-3 days of ordering. Please note that buyers may cancel their orders if they are not shipped by the 7th day after order placement.”
The thing is, I DID send it within 2-3 days. Poshmark’s FAQ page states buyers can only cancel for “accidental purchase” within 3 hours of the order being placed. The sale should be final. So I emailed Poshmark again. If I’m going to continue selling my clothes on their app, I need a guarantee that the buyer won’t be able to cancel the order due to “accidental purchase” AFTER the 3 hour time period.
Poshmark responded, apologizing for the confusion. “The buyer contacted us for assistance, and as such, we are canceling the order for him as a one-time courtesy.” I haven’t had any problems with Poshmark since then.
Today, I’ve made a total of $2,104.05 and I’m proud to be considered a “Top Seller”, “Best Seller” and a Luxury Ambassador on Poshmark! These are my simple, realistic tips to help you clean out your closet and make some money on the side.
Tips To Make Money On Poshmark
If you’re going to go to the trouble of taking a photo, writing a description, and driving to the post office, make sure the clothes you’re listing are in good condition—a quality cut. If an item in your closet is only worth $8 in your opinion, don’t bother listing it on Poshmark. You’re better off donating your clothes at that point. For sales under $15, Poshmark takes $2.95. For sales over $15, Poshmark takes a 20% commission. Time is money!
You don’t need a fancy camera. All you need is your smartphone. Take photos during the day, not at night. Day looks 100x more beautiful. Some people go to great lengths to style their photos with accessories and flowers. I personally don’t have time for that. I like to stick to a consistent background. I will put my shoes on a white surface or hang my shirt on a white door. If you have a photo of yourself wearing the item, include it! It’s useful for people to see how it fits. If you surf the Internet, you can sometimes find original photos from websites you bought them from. If your photos look dull and need a little *POP!* I recommend you download an app called “A Color Story” and use some natural looking filters. Nothing too bright—you still want the photo to reflect the exact color of the dress.
