Employee Owned Mystic Brings Joy Of Stamp Collecting To Many
CAMDEN — Mystic Stamp Co., America’s largest stamp dealer, last year switched to an employee stock ownership plan, also known as an ESOP.
Owners Donald and Sacia Sundman sold their shares to the project. Their roles in the organization remain the same. Donald Mystic is Stamp’s president and Sacia is the director of human resources. They continue to manage the business.
“There are only changes in ownership. There are no changes in operations or with our employees,” Donald Sundman said. “We have a great team, a very successful business and don’t want to change that. I am very excited about the ESOP because it will help our employees save for retirement.
He added, “We have made this change to position Mystic for the future. It rewards our hard-working colleagues and promises to keep Mystic a positive force in the stamp world and in Central New York for years to come.

“The ESOP will be wonderful for our colleagues, the greater Camden community and our customers,” said Chacea Sundman. “It fits our guiding principles.
He added, “The ESOP is an added benefit because we keep our 401K retirement plan and the bi-annual profit sharing bonus.”
About 150 people work at its headquarters on Mystic Mill Street. Lawrence Shaver of Camden founded Mystic in 1923 and sold the business to the Sundman family in 1974.

CAMDEN – Mystic Stamp Company, America’s largest stamp seller, has completed its transition from corporate ownership to an employee stock ownership plan.
The previous owners, Donald and Sacia Sundman, sold their shares to the ESOP. They continued in their current roles at the company. Donald Mystic is Stamp’s president and Sacia is the director of human resources.
