Thirty of the 42 credits required for the degree are core skills classes, including a six-credit internship and 12-16 credit electives, 75 percent of which must be 500-level courses. Students work with faculty advisors to select these electives to support careers in health promotion, environmental and occupational health, geriatric health, or in a specialty such as health anthropology or health counseling or other specific academic/professional needs.

The Graduate Program in Community Health Education last went through the accreditation process in 2015 and is currently in the process of reaccreditation. CEPH (PDF) is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and certain public health programs offered in settings other than schools of public health.
