Like Americans in every other state, Georgians went to the ballot box on and in the weeks leading up to November 3; to cast their vote for president, senator, or maybe just the local town council.

A record 1.3 million voters cast absentee ballots through this post. Another 2.7 million ballots were cast in person during Georgia’s gold standard three weeks of early voting. About 1 million waited on lines an average of 3 minutes on Election Day.
By all accounts, Georgia had a very successful and smooth election. We finally defeated the voting lines and put behind us Fulton County’s now infamous reputation for disastrous elections. This should be something for Georgians to celebrate, whether their favorite presidential candidate won or lost. For those wondering, he lost mine – my family voted for him, they gave to him and are now being thrown under the bus by him.
Elections are the foundation of our democracy. They need to be run fairly and, perhaps more importantly, impartially. That is not partisan. That’s just American. Yet some don’t seem to see it that way.
When I took office, I committed to conducting elections in Georgia with integrity. After any election, half the voters will be happy and the other half disappointed. But I wanted to make sure that everyone felt confident in the process and confident in the outcome.

And as November 3 drew to a close, Georgia voters had every reason to be. Again, short lines on Election Day. Record the turnout. Record early voting and record absentees by post.
In the days that followed, a losing presidential campaign refused to accept the facts, following a playbook written by a failed gubernatorial candidate two years earlier. A failed senatorial candidate with nothing to do tried to undermine the integrity of Georgia’s elections. A self-described “attorney for the damned” took on the case. An onslaught of fake news and unrepentant disinformation threatened to tear the fabric of our country apart. People on both sides of the aisle produced arguments out of nowhere to cause trouble.
Even as Georgia embarked on its first state audit, a process made possible only by the state’s new printed paper ballot system, those who called for the full manual recount prompted by the audit of such a close race were arranged to undermine her credibility. Those who had been the beneficiaries of the electoral process for so long tried to tear it down at its very foundations.
When the nation is caught in turmoil, as it has been through several presidential terms, the people of Georgia and their fellow Americans will look to leaders with integrity for guidance.
Raffensperger Wins Georgia’s G.o.p. Secretary Of State Primary
Throughout my two years as secretary of state, I have repeatedly fought to maintain the integrity of elections in Georgia. We worked with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to strengthen signature matching for absentee ballot voters. We outlawed vote harvesting and implemented a new voting system with printed paper ballots that voters could hold and review before casting for the first time in almost 20 years. We fought frivolous lawsuits from fringe groups and a failed gubernatorial candidate trying to undermine laws passed by state legislators who were actually elected by the voters.
In times of uncertainty, when the integrity of our political system is at greatest risk, the integrity of our politicians is crucial.
Many of my fellow Republicans are men and women of integrity. They demonstrate it every day: fighting for their constituents, fighting for freedom, and fighting for fair and reliable elections.

Georgia Secretary Of State Blocks Caller After Receiving Unhinged Threats
As former President Donald Trump tried to blame his loss in the 2020 election, Georgia’s secretary of state emerged as one of his main targets. Now, with a Trump-endorsed challenger in the Republican primary, Brad Raffensperger is fighting to keep his job.
The secretary of state emerged from relative obscurity into the national spotlight when he insisted that the Georgia election had been fair and secure, and refused to bow to pressure from Trump to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the state. Raffensperger says he is running for re-election based on his record of integrity as a principled conservative.
“I’ve shown that I’ll stand up and make the tough decisions and I’ll do what’s right, and that’s what I’m called to do,” he said in a recent interview with The Associated Press.
Months after Raffensperger certified Biden’s victory, Georgia US Representative Jody Hice, a conservative Trump loyalist and former minister, announced that he would run against Raffensperger in the May 24 Republican primary and quickly secured the former president’s endorsement. Two others — former Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle and former county Probate Judge and Magistrate Judge T.J. Hudson – also challenging Raffensperger from the right.
Georgia Secretary Of State Spoke With January 6 Committee About Election Lies
It’s not surprising that Raffensperger has attracted primary challengers, said Emory University political science professor Andra Gillespie, noting that polls have shown that many Republican voters in Georgia believe voter fraud is widespread and question the results of the 2020 election.
“Certainly his role in standing up to Trump, while gaining him some respect nationally, is not necessarily garnering any kind of praise from the Trump wing of the Republican party in the state,” he said.
State and federal officials, including Trump’s own attorney general, have said there was no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. But that hasn’t stopped the proliferation of conspiracy theories and false claims.
Trump endorsed Raffensperger during the 2018 general election run-off. But as Georgia’s presidential votes were counted, recounted and recounted — and even after the results were certified — the president unleashed his fury. He called the secretary of state an “enemy of the people” and promised to campaign against him. In a now infamous phone call on January 2, 2021, Trump pressed Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to swing the election result in his favor.
Georgia Elections Chief Fights Trump, Fellow Republicans
But Trump wasn’t the only Republican to turn on Raffensperger. Then-U.S. He called Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, facing a January 2021 runoff election that they ultimately lost to Democratic challengers, called on the secretary of state to resign. Georgia GOP Party Chairman David Shafer has repeatedly disparaged Raffensperger’s handling of the 2020 election.
Raffensperger has pushed back on the narrative that the election was stolen, citing investigations that have found no widespread fraud and the many unsuccessful lawsuits filed by Trump and his allies.
“Me and all my other friends on the right side of the aisle were disappointed,” Raffensperger said. “But yup, those were the numbers. President Trump came up short.”
Prominent Republicans have continued to criticize Raffensperger, citing a legal settlement and emergency election measures put in place because of the pandemic. In a sweeping election overhaul passed last year, Republican lawmakers stripped the secretary of state of his chairmanship and voting power on the State Board of Election.

In Georgia and elsewhere, Raffensperger also won praise — including from some Democrats — for standing up to the president and others in his party. But Professor Emory Gillespie pointed out that the law left him little choice: “Morally, ethically, legally, he did the right thing.”
Shortly after the recording of the call between Trump and Raffensperger was leaked in January 2021, he warned against celebrating Raffensperger.
“The lefty Brad Raffensperger is a bit wrong,” he said. “This man is not defending the right of voters. He is defending an election he ran.”
Abrams has often accused Raffensperger and other Republicans of suppressing voting rights, especially for people of color. The secretary of state has responded by asserting that the Democrats’ claims of voter suppression are just as damaging as claims by Trump and his supporters that the 2020 election was stolen.

Although challengers to incumbents typically don’t do well in primaries, committed party voters who show up for such contests could favor Hice, said University of Georgia political science professor Charles Bullock.
“The fact that Trump remains an important factor for many Republicans and that he has put his stamp of approval on a challenger improves Hice’s prospects,” Bullock said.
Hice has been raising more money than Raffensperger in recent months, bringing in just over $1 million
