This week at all.ai concluded its 5-day summit hosted by Intel. At the conference it was announced that Intel India in collaboration with Telangana government, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) and Public Health Institute of India (PHFI) is launching INAI, artificial intelligence (AI) research used. Hyderabad station. INAI is an initiative to apply AI to population-level problems in the Indian context, with a focus on identifying and solving challenges in the healthcare and mobility sectors through robust ecosystem collaboration. On Wednesday, Microsoft announced that it has made a breakthrough in AI imaging. AI can not only detect objects in images but also understand the relationships between them and then provide human-like explanations; as indicated above. Researchers at Microsoft pre-trained a large AI model with a rich database of images paired with word tags, with each tag being mapped to a specific object in the image. The pre-trained model is then fine-tuned for captions on a collection of annotated images. In this training stage, the model learns how to compose sentences. When presented with an image containing novel objects, the company wrote, the AI system uses the visual vocabulary to extract a brief description. This new image caption system is also twice as good as the image caption format that has been used in Microsoft products and services since 2015. Learn more here.

This week, at their most anticipated event of the year, Apple announced new devices – the iPhone 12 family. The new devices are powered by the A14 Bionic, a first-of-its-kind 5 nm chip that does the heavy lifting needed for photography and other tasks. The launch mainly focused on the 5G feature of the phone. “This is a major breakthrough for iPhone, bringing the best 5G experience to market and delivering our most advanced technologies to consumers who want the most from their iPhone,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have collaborated on a project called The Open Catalyst. As part of the project, researchers will use AI to model and discover new catalysts for use in renewable energy storage to help tackle climate change. In what appears to be endless good news for the chip maker, NVIDIA today announced that a consortium of Italian universities CINECA will use the company’s accelerated computing platform to build the world’s fastest AI supercomputer.
The new “Leonardo” platform, built by Atos, is expected to deliver 10 FP16 AI performance tests to enable advanced AI and HPC applications. Featuring approximately 14,000 NVIDIA Ampere architecture networks and NVIDIAMellanox HDR 200Gb/s InfiniBand networks, Leonardo will push Italy as a global leader in AI and advanced computing research and innovation.
