Sports Desk, in case you missed the highlights from last week’s Wild Card weekend, here they are.
Many fans consider it the best NFL weekend of the year, and here’s why. Saturday and Sunday matches between the best teams in the league will be played for the highest possible stakes. All eight teams kicked off the weekend with just three games left to become Super Bowl champions. So, you know. casually.
The last time these teams met in November, the Chiefs beat the Jaguars 27-17. We were surprised to learn this fun fact before today’s match. Heading into this matchup, Trevor Lawrence set a perfect Saturday record. He has never lost a football game played on a Saturday, not in high school, college or the NFL.
Lawrence, of course, didn’t have to play Patrick Mahomes on Saturday. The Chiefs quarterback suffered a right ankle injury in the first quarter and was subsequently taken to the locker room before returning in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Chad Henne took over for him and did a great job hunting the Chiefs. Despite the injury, Mahomes engineered two scoring drives in the second half and led Kansas City to a 27–20 victory.

The Chiefs will face the winner of tonight’s Cincinnati Bengals-Buffalo Bills matchup in the AFC Championship game next week.
It’s time for Turnpike Tussle! The Giants came into this game losing to the Eagles in every matchup this season (the Giants outscored 70-38). Daniel Jones stunned fans last week with a come-from-behind win over Minnesota. This time, however, he faced the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts. Hurts came off the injured list for his second career playoff start. Three-peat (beating the same team three times in one season) is hard. However, the Eagles won 38-7.
Note, if you like quarterback drama, this is your weekend game. It’s Joe Burrow versus Josh Allen for the first time. The two teams were supposed to play Monday Night Football in Week 17. However, that came to a dramatic halt when the Bills’ Damar Hamlin suffered a heart attack on the field. Thankfully, he is on the road to recovery. And a rematch takes place. Neither team lived up to expectations on the Wild Card weekend. But they made it this round and a win is a win. I have high expectations for a good game.
This will be the ninth postseason meeting between these two historic franchises, which ties most of all matchups. The Cowboys will be hoping to carry the momentum from their landslide win over Tampa Bay into California. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott will have to face arguably the best defense in the NFL. And there’s also Brock Purdy with plenty of momentum on his side.
