With Microsoft SQL Server Database Tools, you can get these features for free in Visual Studio, not just Professional or Premium editions, but all versions of Visual Studio since 2012, including the new 2015 Community Edition. Visual Studio 2012 Sql Server Data Tools
With SQL Server Data Tools installed, the extension installs a new view called SQL Server Object Explorer. Like Server Explorer, this view panel connects to a SQL Server database and allows you to view databases and their structure. It adds additional functionality for executing SQL queries and creating new server objects. This is similar to SQL Server Management Studio within Visual Studio.

Along with SQL Server Object Explorer, the new Table Designer is included with SQL Server Data Tools, allowing you to create tables from a familiar user interface. When you make changes to a table from the SQL Panel or Designer window, other updates are automatically updated. The resulting script can be executed or saved, then executed and the script saves the data as in SQL Server Management Studio, as well as warns about potential data loss.

Finally, click the “Update” button to update the target destination with all selected variables. This creates a duplicate schema from the source database to the target database object. A database category is divided into different sections based on the database’s unique characteristics such as design, user and appearance, and stored procedures.
To convert from a SQL Server database type to a SQL Server database template, simply do the reverse. Select the database type as source, then select database target, the target database you want to update. It’s easy.
Like other deployable Visual Studio projects, SQL Server database projects include publishing functionality. Internally, when you run Database Version on the destination database server, it performs a Schema comparison to update the target database by changing the request schema. No need to worry about migration documents or migration scripts. A Schema Compare tool that runs during deployment ensures that the destination database is up-to-date with the latest development changes.

Another great feature built into the database publish operation is that you don’t need to run a script to publish the resulting results. The SQL Server Data Tools Publishing feature allows you to save the resulting SQL statements to a file for later storage or execution. This allows developers to compare major versions of database designs and create migration scripts for new versions.
Another amazing feature built into database publishing operations is the ability to run scripts before and after deployment. A very useful item that can be included in these deployment scripts is the database seed value, which is often created in the destination database. Using commands like the MERGE INTO SQL statement allows developers to quickly synchronize database values between a development version and a major version.
But wait, it can’t possibly get any better, right? The ad scripts that you generate are created in SQL Server’s SQLCMD function. SQL Server database projects allow developers to set SQLCMD variables within the project properties, which can be used in your scripts at runtime. This allows database developers to turn off certain functions that run in pre- or post-deployment scripts.
